A comprehensive summary on the entire Microsoft E3 conference is provided by Mediakick.
One of the most anticipated conferences of this year’s E3 is Microsoft’s Global Media Briefing. Surprises of surprises, they opened with a gameplay footage of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The scale was there and it felt like a Call of Duty game. Don Mattrick then makes an appearance to a huge applause. He thanks everyone who is watching for making last year the biggest year in history for Xbox. He then briefs what we will see in this conference.
Crystal Dynamic’s Darrel Gallagher, then briefs us through a demo of Tomb Raider, which from the moment they started playing it looks absolutely fantastic! Lara had to use her survival instincts to survive immense torture.
Peter Moore (President of EA Sports) then comes out. 4 EA Sports titles will feature Kinect. Tiger Woods, Madden and FIFA and one unannounced title. Other EA games will feature Kinect, including the Sims Pets.
Dr Ray Myska from Bioware then comes out to tell us about Mass Effect 3 and drops the bombshell that it will feature Kinect and brings out a fellow developer to demonstrate this.
A Ghost Recon: Future Soldier trailer then plays, featuring much updated visual presentation. Yves Guilliem confirms that Kinect will feature in the game, and a few other titles they have coming out soon.
Mac Whitten from Xbox Live then comes on stage to a whooping from the audience. His vision is to eliminate the remote control and enable voice control menu options. From the looks of things, this is yet another dashboard. Many new partners have been made.
President of the UFC, Dana White then comes on stage to unveil a new trailer for UFC Xbox Live, which features predictions being enabled for fights.
Microsoft’s Studios Phil Spencer then appears to say the rest of the conference will feature exclusive titles to Xbox 360, starting with Gears of War 3. That War Pigs trailer then plays featuring some more explosions and a gritty edge. Cliff Bleszinski then comes on stage to a huge applause.
The much rumoured Halo: Combat Evolved remake was then demonstrated, now known as Halo Combat Evolved: Anniversary Edition, featuring new visuals, Multiplayer Maps, Co-Op and a remastered campaign Nov 15th 2011.
Forza Motorsport 4 is then shown to the press, with many community features, monthly expansions, world tour modes and Kinect Headscanning technology.
Peter Molyneux then comes out on stage to discuss Fable: The Journey, together with a beautiful looking demo, that mentions that Heroes are no longer born but must be made.
Phil Spencer then comes back on stage to announce a huge bombshell. Minecraft is coming to Xbox 360 Kinect exclusively. He also announces a partnership with Disney in the form of Kinect Disneyland Adventures.
It does seem a little disappoint that very few hardcore titles are announced that don’t feature Kinect, but we have seen some things that Kinect can do that haven’t seen before. The amount of small children on stage does make the whole direction of Microsoft seem a little towards the family rather than the gamer, and the Xbox Live TV feature may change how we visualise entertainment. But as a gaming conference for traditional gamers there was very little here for them. What we did see however looks pretty good.Read full story
